Food Bank Donation Collection Drivers

It’s a sad fact that many people within our community experience food poverty; that’s why our Food Hub strives to make sure that no one has to go hungry and we endeavour to reduce the stigma attached to people accessing a Food Bank.

In order to keep our Food Bank well stocked we urgently need local volunteers to pick up food donations from collection points across South Derbyshire and deliver them to our service centre which is located in Swadlincote.

Pickup Locations across South Derbyshire

Is the location accessible for those with physical disabilities or limited mobility?

Is the location accessible by public transport?

Collections must be made weekly, on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday but the hours are flexible between 9.00am and 12.30pm. The only exception to this is the main Sainsbury’s store in Swadlincote from which we collect twice a week due to the volume of donations.

Could this role be carried out virtually or through a hybrid volunteering model?

Is a criminal record check (DBS) required for this role?

Is a driving license required?

Are expenses covered?

Yes, we reimburse mileage (45p per mile) for the full journey including travel from your home to collection points and service centre then back to home.

What will you be doing?

For this role, volunteers must be aged 18+ and will need to have their own car and a full driving licence.

You will be required to make collections from one or more locations, depending on your availability, and deliver the items to our CVS Food Centre in Swadlincote the same day before 3.00pm to avoid wastage of perishable items or those with short best before dates.

Our collection points are located at:
• Sainsbury’s Civic Way, Swadlincote DE11 OAD
• Sainsbury’s Local Burton Road, Midway, Swadlincote DE11 7ND
• Sainsbury’s Local Glamorgan Way, Church Gresley, Swadlincote DE11 9GB
• Tamworth Co-op Society Main Street, Rosliston, Swadlincote DE12 8JW
• Central Co-op Food 226 Woods Lane, Stapenhill DE15 9EJ
• Central Co-op Food 67 Burton Road, Overseal, Swadlincote DE12 6JJ
• Central Co-op Food Station Road, Hatton, Derby DE65 5EL
• Central Co-op Food Repton Road, Willington DE65 6BX
• Mercia Marina, Findern Lane, Derby, DE65 6DW

What skills are required?

We have a duty of care to our own volunteers, and so we ask that our collection drivers have a good level of fitness due to the nature of the role, in particular relating to bending and lifting boxes and or bags.

Will training be given or available?

Additional important information

We will require to take two references as part of the application process, and once successfully appointed collection drivers will be issued with a CVS Photo-identification Badge and a letter of authority to enable them to make the collections.
