Treasurer

Oversee the financial affairs of the community hall and ensure they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practice. Ensure proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures are in place. Monitor and report on the financial health of the organisation.

What will you be doing?

To ensure that the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.

Ensure bookkeeping is kept up to date.

Make fellow committee members aware of their financial obligations and take a lead in interpreting financial data to them.

Report the financial position at board meetings (balance sheet, cash flow, fundraising performance etc).

Oversee the production of an annual budget and propose its adoption at the last meeting of the previous financial year.

Ensure proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures and controls are in place, ie:

Cheque signatories

Petty cash/ float

Liaising with auditors/an independent examiner annually.

Oversee payments to creditors as appropriate.

Complete banking, deposit of cheques etc.

What skills are required?

Good organisational skills.

Excellent numerical skills.

General IT skills.

Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.

Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.

Good, independent judgement.

Willingness to speak their mind.

Ability to communicate clearly.

Financial qualifications and experience desirable.

Some experience of charity finance, fundraising and pension schemes desirable.

Will training be given or available?

Supervision and support: You will work directly with the Chair and Secretary who will assign tasks and support their delivery.
