Beavers Team Leader (Tuesdays)

The Tuesday Beavers Team Leader is responsible for leading and coordinating the Beaver Colony (ages 6–8) to deliver a safe, engaging and high-quality Scouting programme.

What will you be doing?

Key responsibilities include:
- Planning and overseeing a balanced programme of weekly meetings in line with Scout values and the Beaver Scout programme
- Leading weekly sessions and ensuring activities are safe, inclusive and age-appropriate
- Supporting and coordinating Assistant Leaders and volunteer helpers
- Ensuring safeguarding, health and safety, and risk assessment procedures are followed
- Monitoring badge work and recognising young people’s achievements
- Communicating effectively with parents/carers regarding activities, events and expectations
- Supporting the recruitment and development of new volunteers within the section
- Working collaboratively with the wider Group Leadership Team to ensure continuity and progression through the sections
- The Team Leader plays a key role in creating a welcoming environment where young people feel safe, valued and encouraged to try new things.

What skills are required?

The Beaver Team Leader role requires a combination of personal qualities, practical skills and a commitment to delivering safe, engaging Scouting for young people aged 6–8.

While previous Scouting experience is beneficial, it is not essential. Full training and ongoing support are provided. However, the following skills and experience are particularly valuable:

Essential Skills and Qualities:
- Strong communication skills, particularly the ability to engage positively with young children
- Good organisational and planning skills to coordinate weekly programmes and activities
- Leadership skills and the ability to motivate and support a volunteer team
- A patient, enthusiastic and approachable manner
- A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and equality
- Reliability and the ability to manage responsibility

Desirable Experience
- Experience working or volunteering with children (e.g. education, youth work, sports coaching, childcare or similar)
- Experience in leading or managing a team
- Basic knowledge of health and safety practices
- Experience in planning events or activities

The role also requires a willingness to complete relevant Scout training and undertake a DBS check in line with safeguarding requirements.

Above all, the most important requirement is a genuine enthusiasm for helping young people grow in confidence, skills and character through fun, adventurous and inclusive activities.
